Some tunes we often overlook in video games are the intro themes of publishing/developing companies, and the boot-up themes to various systems. Here is a medley of system boot-ups and company themes that can be recognized by gamers everywhere, and have special importance to me.

There was a time when snow/skate-boarding games were kings of videogame land. Around the time I was in Junior High, everyone one was playing 1080, CoolBoarders, Tony Hawk Proskater, Snowboard Kids, Grind Sessions, Twisted Edge, Amped, or SSX. The only FPS I remember playing at the time was Goldeneye. It was a time when everyone wanted to be an “extreme” sportsman rather than a soldier of war.

Now of course things are sort of reversed. The only snow/skate games I can think of recently are Shaun White’s Snowboarding and the Skate series, and neither of those are really that new either. The return of SSX reminds me of that classic age of “extreme” sports but with a modern look and feel mixed in there. I hope it turns out well, but for now I’m just happy to be excited for a snowboarding game one more time.
